In occasione del quarantesimo anniversario della morte il volume intende affermare la figura di Calvino e il ruolo civile dell’intellettuale in tutti i suoi risvolti: scrittore, saggista, giornalista e poi direttore di collana. Il libro intende fare il punto su tali ruoli con tutti i suoi agganci con la cultura italiana. Prima con Vittorini e poi da solo con riviste/collane importanti, sempre con l’appoggio del suo editore, Giulio Einaudi, lo scrittore ligure ha espresso la sua idea di letteratura dandole una funzione esistenziale, da qui la ricerca della leggerezza come reazione al peso di vivere.
