Negli ultimi anni, anche in Italia si è diffusa la nail art, ossia l'usanza di adornare le unghie con smalti e gel colorati, e addirittura con decorazioni ad hoc. Ma non è certo una moda recente! Già 5000 anni fa, i popoli dell'India e gli egizi dipingevano le unghie con l'henné, mentre in Cina si usava una miscela di albume d'uovo, cera d'api e gelatina. La bellezza delle unghie si basa su fenomeni scientifici complessi e interessanti come la catalizzazione e la polimerizzazione. Oggi potrete svolgere esperimenti e prove pratiche grazie a cui imparerete, tra le altre cose, le differenze chimico-strutturali tra gli smalti e i gel, ma anche quali sono i limiti delle tecniche di manicure e quali problemi possono causare alla salute delle nostre unghie.
